Futuresky — Crafting and communicating a human-centered vision for the future of aerospace
CHALLENGE
Create a website to help JAXA communicate its vision for the future of aerospace and engage with the public.

JAXA is the national aerospace and space agency of Japan. With their slogan being, "Explore to realize," the organization has always taken a bottom-up approach to research and development.
While they aspire to be an inspirational organization, the way they traditionally communicate with the public is very hard for non-researchers and less technical people to understand.
An example of how JAXA traditionally communicates their vision and early explorations.
In an effort to expand their horizons and identify new research fields, JAXA partnered with IDEO to take a human-centered approach to crafting a vision for the future of aerospace that the public could relate to and engage with.
As the project lead, I led a multi-disciplinary, international team to collaborate with JAXA's aerospace research division on crafting and communicating this vision through a public-facing website. Over the course of 6 weeks, I led the team through:
01
Getting inspired from analogous experiences, interviews, and looking-ins with JAXA employees to generate insights and HMWs.
02
Brainstorming design concepts with architects, university students, and researchers at JAXA.
03
Designing early sacrificial concepts for the future of aerospace.
04
Grouping, voting on, and prioritizing design concepts to form opportunity areas.
05
Storytelling the human experience of all our design concepts and how they come together in a future scenario.
06
Establishing a design language to make the technology feel more friendly and human.
07
Designing a responsive website to present the opportunity areas and stories in Japanese and English.
08
Creating animations and delightful interactions across the website.
